                              CHEMICAL CONVERSION COATING SPECIFICATIONS

  • MIL-DTL-554 — (Classes 1A & 3, Types I & II)

  • AMS 2473

  • AMS 2474

  • AMS 2477

  • ASTM B449 (Classes 1, 2, 3, 4)

                                            BENEFITS / TECHNICAL PERFORMANCE

Chemical conversion coating (chem film) forms a very thin protective layer on aluminum and zinc substrates that enhances corrosion resistance while maintaining electrical conductivity and dimensional stability. Unlike thicker coatings, chem film provides protection without altering part geometry or tolerances.

Key Performance Benefits:

  • Corrosion resistance for aluminum and zinc components

  • Maintains low electrical resistance and conductivity

  • Ideal base for paint and adhesive systems

  • Thin, non-dimensional coating

  • Clear or yellow finish, depending on process and specification

  • Meets salt spray corrosion resistance requirements per MIL-DTL-5541

  • RoHS-compliant trivalent options available

  • Supports electrical grounding applications

Every chemical conversion coating process is controlled, documented, and verified to meet applicable MIL and AMS specifications.
